On May 18, 2016 the Alberta government announced a phased-in re-entry plan for residents of the Fort McMurray/Wood Buffalo areas scheduled to begin on June 1.

As part of that announcement, the province also announced that a re-entry plan for retailers with stores in the evacuated communities would also be developed.

The Regional Municipality (RM) of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) has developed and is coordinating the re-entry plans. It is RCC’s understanding that the main concern of the RMWB over the past 7 days has been to deal with continued wildfires in the area and on getting essential services back on line. Once these issues have been addressed, they will shift their attention to implementing their retail re-entry plan.

RCC has been advised that the RMWB has already contacted many Fort McMurray retailers directly. If you have not yet been contacted by the RMWB, please e-mail [email protected].

RMWB has also indicated they will be providing additional details to RCC on the re-entry plan shortly. Once further details have been received, RCC will provide this information to members and will be posting all information updates at www.retailcouncil.org on our Fort McMurray Resources page.
